MOTORSPORT SOLUTIONS SALUTES FORMULA FORD FOURSOME.
The man behind Christchurch-based motor racing team Motorsport Solutions, John Crawford, has saluted the four young drivers - Andre Heimgartner, Stefan Webling, John Whelan and Andrew Vincent- the team ran in the New Zealand Formula Ford championship this season.
The four dominated this years championship with Heimgartner winning the title from fellow Mygale driver Webling and stealth driver Whelan, Andrew Vincent finished eighth and claimed rookie of the year honours.
A former New Zealand Formula Ford champion himself, Crawford has masterminded more successful title challenges than he cares to remember. But this years four-pronged attack stands out for several reasons. "First and foremost, we finished one-two-three in the championship. Secondly, we again won Rookie of the year award. Probably the most satisfying thing from a team owners perspective, however, is that Andre's win is the culmination of a plan we have been working on with him and his father for the past 18 months."
Crawford and members of his Christchurch based team have been running drivers in the New Zealand Formula Ford championship for the past 23 years and have enjoyed a number of other successful campaigns including those with Invercargill driver Le Roy Stevenson and Dunedin driver John Whelan.
This year Aucklander Heimgartner, who won Rookie of the year with Motorsport solutions team last season, claimed the overall title with 1122 points. In doing so the 15 year old made history by being the youngest driver in the category's history to claim a national championship title.
Second was his Superlux Team mate Stefan Webling with 1067 points, third former class champion John Whelan with 1044.
Formula Ford is one of the country's longest established and most successful motor racing categories with drivers contesting a New Zealand title in this country every year since 1972.
Crawford is adamant that time in the category is essential for any young driver keen on building a career in motorsport and to that end took on the local Mygale agency last year to upgrade his teams fleet and is looking at establishing a "junior feeder" team to ease the transition from Karts or formula first this year.
"Its something we've been thinking about for a while so if anyone out there is looking to make the move to a single seater class they should talk to us." he says. "Even if their driver is still in karts or whatever, its never too early to start and as we've proved with Andre, the earlier you start the better."
17/3/11 McRae GM1 004 is finished.
We have been building McRae GM1 004 since its arrival at our premesis in April of 2010 and are very pleased to announce that the car is finished and on its way to Australia to compete at Phillip Island and the Melbourne Grand Prix. Heres some photos.

2/2/11 Here we are near the end of the NZ national motorsport season and are proud to have 3 cars in the hunt for championship honors. Andre Heimgartner holds a healthy lead in his Superlux sponsored Mygale Formula Ford ahead of John Whelan in his Van Dieman. Stefan Webling, also in a Mygale Formula ford, is still within reach in fourth with two rounds to go, Manfield 11-13 Febuary and Taupo 18-20 March.
We were all woken up at 4.35am to the earthquake which rocked Christchurch on Saturday 4/9/2010, and I am glad to report no one was hurt and despite a days worth of picking up toppled toolboxes and stock, we are fully operational and report no damage to our building or vehicles.
We are proud to be the New Zealand agents for Mygale, and we we welcome any enquiry you may have for the latest in Formula Ford technology.
